Sam Fletcher

When I first started programming properly, my mentor mentioned how "you don't need to know how a python dictionary works in order to use it". Whilst this is true, all this made me do was spend 5 hours that weekend examining the intricate details of hash maps and the siphash algorithm. For me, knowing the answer (or what the tool does and how to use it) isn't enough. I won't stop learning until I believe I could confidently teach someone as rigorous as myself.

My desire to understand systems on a deep level extends beyond programming languages. I spent a few years learning japanese, which lead me into a subject that interested me even more: linguistics. The fact that something as seemingly mundane as 'the letter w' has more history behind it than some major wars fascinates me.

I was always creating board games and card games as a kid, but my goals of creating a video game was always out of reach for me. Now, with sharper skills and more confidence than my overzealous school-day self, I'm applying that same drive to a new medium: finally building the video games that would make child me proud.
